Week 10 Devlog - Sana

This week, I don’t have any self-deprecating or whimsical Anne-with-an-E-style humor (although I’m never sure if I’m being whimsical or straight up weirdo).

In this class, I challenged myself to learn something completely new: Unity and Blender. While I began exploring Unity, given the time crunch and my teammates’ experience, I stepped back and let Lavanya and Aqeel take charge. They did an incredible job!

My main focus for the past four weeks has been Blender, and Timmy’s uncooperative mesh and dialogues (that I managed to write with crippling anxiety. You know the whole deal)

Do I have images of my progress? Absolutely. I documented my failures (and eventual moderate success) throughout the week.

Did Timmy finally sit?

Yes.

Did Blender behave?

Surprisingly, it did. After weeks of frustration, I finally reached a point where the program felt less like a wall and more like a tool I could work with.

Did I still cry?

Of course… but some of those tears were happy. I’m proud of what I made.

It took me nearly four days to model Timmy into his current form. His hands may still look like an anvil flattened them, but they work. I started from a basic cube, and then created the entire body with extrude and shaped it with loop cuts (blender is actually fun when it’s not being a total biyatch). Then I gave him clothes and eyes and mouth.

Now I can lord it over him like every brown parent.

Timmy may not be super polished, but he’s the product of my blood, sweat, and literal tears. And Mixamo recognized his neck, wrists, joints, and knees (thanks to the loop cuts).

He not only sits, but chills on the floor like the gremlin he is.

This week, our team also recorded the intro and outro dialogues for the game (per Professor Richard’s advice) for a clear start and finish.

Overall, this has been a rewarding experience, and I hope you enjoy our game.

Side Note: If my yelling in-game startles you, I was channeling Devi Vishwakumar’s mom.
